Our choice: Fix Sausalito’s waterfront now, or pay for it later
Dear Neighbor,
Here's the hard truth: our 40-year-old waterfront rules have made it nearly impossible for the businesses that operate there to grow, reinvest, or generate the kind of increases in revenue that could actually pay to fix our decaying infrastructure.
AIM — the Arts, Industrial & Maritime Preservation & Improvement Initiative — changes that.
But don’t just take our word for it. Jim Madden, owner of Sausalito Yacht Harbor, knows our waterfront firsthand and was recently quoted in the Marin IJ for his public comment supporting AIM at the last City Council meeting.
“My family owns Sausalito Yacht Harbor. We have a significant investment in the future waterfront. We would never support anything that harms our businesses or the character of Sausalito.”
“The reality is our waterfront infrastructure is aging and deteriorating because current rules have made reinvestment extremely difficult. AIM will help create a path to rebuild infrastructure, address sea-level rise, and support a vibrant working waterfront."
Flooded streets. Storm drains that can't keep up. An 80-year-old sewer system held together with hope. Infrastructure repairs that will cost tens of millions of dollars — with no plan for how to pay for them.
If we don't do something different, nothing will change; and Sausalito residents, like you, will be on the hook to pay this bill through higher taxes. We already pay some of the highest taxes in Marin, and we will have to keep doing so.
Nothing will change.
Unless we do something different.
AIM is that something different.
AIM updates the 1985 rules that have frozen our waterfront in place. It frees our maritime and industrial businesses to innovate, adapt, and grow — so they can generate the tax revenue needed to fund infrastructure repairs. It helps solve a community problem without raising taxes on residents.
Soon it will be time for the Sausalito residents of today to make that choice.
Please help educate others on why it’s important to vote yes on AIM this November.
