Our waterfront is a vital part of Sausalito’s identity, economy and culture. But today, many properties are underused, building are aging, and opportunities for growth and investment are limited.
Our waterfront is struggling. You can see it with your own eyes: vacant lots, rusting RV storage, dilapidated empty buildings, flooded streets and deteriorating infrastructure.
Behind what you see are 40-year-old laws written for a different time. They hold our waterfront businesses back from adapting, innovating and reinvesting. Many can't start or stay here, and end up putting their creativity and investment elsewhere.
Measure X changes that. It updates outdated laws so our small businesses can thrive.
It helps existing businesses stay and makes room for more small businesses we love.
Measure X helps bring our neglected spaces back to life. It generates more tax revenue to mitigate sea-level rise and fix Sausalito’s aging infrastructure—reducing the pressure for higher taxes on residents.

What Measure X Changes
Measure X makes key changes to our land use and development rules, including:

Replaces citywide vote with standard process (except in Downtown Historic District)

What Stays/Protections
Measure X does not eliminate everything. Key protection and long-standing regulations remain, including:
Downtown Historic District vote requirements
BCDC and state environmental regulations
Building, fire and safety codes
Some waterfront and harbor regulations
Existing 10% liveaboard limit (BCDC)
Community design standards, where applicable
